Profiles in Courage - Lindsey Armstrong (WSOC)

CARSON -- A number of former Cal State Dominguez Hills student-athletes have turned in one uniform for another, currently finding themselves in the middle of today's fight against COVID-19.

GoToros.com salutes these alums, and will recognize their heroic efforts on the front line as the pandemic continues to alter the way we go about our daily activities.

This profile in courage features Lindsey Armstrong, a former women's soccer player who earned her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of San Francisco School of Nursing & Health Professions in the summer of 2019 and now serves as a Cardiac / Step Down ICU nurse at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center in honor of her father who passed from sudden cardiac arrest in 2018.

Lindsey was named the CSUDH Dr. Hal Charnofsky Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year thrice in her career, also claiming the then Dr. Richard Butwell Award as a senior, the most prestigious individual honor bestowed by the Athletics Department that was renamed the CSUDH Presidential Award for the 2018-19 academic year.

Thank you, Lindsey, for your commitment and dedication to serve.a

How I'm helping:
"I'm caring for patients and their 'families' (virtually) during these unprecedented and tough times, and I want to say thank you to everyone helping fight this!  We all play an important role."

My motivation to help is:
"I absolutely love what I do! I am challenged each and every shift and it's an honor to be serving during these times.  We will  be reading about this in our history books a decade from now! I am also very thankful for a job and trying to help out friends/small businesses as much as possible!"

How life has changed in 2020:
"Facing adversity and adjusting to this 'new (hopefully temporary) norm.' This is inspiring me even more to continue to push myself to grow personally and professionally. I also recently got engaged and my fiancé also is fighting this battle in his career in law enforcement. We are excited to have a little joy in our lives during this uncertainty."

How my participation in collegiate athletics influences me during the current pandemic:
"Everything is a team effort in these times! We have to work together and be able to overcome this with lessons learned. If your Physicians, Respiratory Therapists, Nurses, Registered Dietitians, Techs, etc. are not on the same page, proper care will suffer. This pandemic has really stressed the importance of emergency preparedness!"
