LIVERMORE –
Todd Henderson carded a 1-under 71 to match his career best and help lead Cal State Dominguez Hills to its best result of the season: a fifth-place finish with a team score of 896 at the Notre Dame de Namur Invitational Tuesday.
In addition to cracking under 900 for the first time this season, the Toros compiled a 295 in their final trip through Poppy Ridge Golf Course to set a campaign best.
Henderson turned in a ninth-place finish out of 76 competitors in perhaps the best performance in his collegiate golfing career, highlighted by scoring two birdies and making par in 15 of them.
Raynard Belmonte and
Steven Escobar both carded 74 scores in the third round. Belmonte, who ended up scoring a 224 in the tournament, stood pat at 17
th in the standings. Escobar, meanwhile, leaped into a tie for 25
th.
Dylan Hall made three birdies that helped him keep his score at 76 and finish 34
th while
Kyle Campano rounded out the group with an 80, putting him in 38
th overall.
Jesse Peh and
Andres Navarro, who competed as individuals, scored an 85 and 80, respectively.
Academy of Art ended up taking the tournament win by edging Dixie State by one stroke, recording a 12-over 876. Both teams scored 288 in the final round. The Urban Knights' second round score of 292 was the difference.
Cal State East Bay's Joey Herrera took home medalist honors after shooting a 5-under 211.
The Toros will be making a return to the Bay Area Monday to partake in East Bay's Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout at the Corica Park South Course in nearby Alameda.
