VISTA – The Cal State Dominguez Hills golf team wrapped up Cal State San Marcos' Fujikura Invitational scoring a 312 in the third and final trip through the par-72, 7,008-yard Shadowridge Country Club Tuesday. With a final mark of 933, the Toros placed 14
th out of 16.
Raynard Belmonte ended his day scoring an 80 in the final round to record a total of 226, placing him 26
th out of 87 participants.
Steven Escobar and
Jessee Peh both led the effort for the Toros with each penciling in a 77.
Dylan Hall and
Todd Henderson each had a 79 to round out Dominguez Hills on the day.
Henderson finished the tournament scoring a 232 to place 47
th while Hall, Peh and Escobar had 240, 241 and 242, respectively.
It turned out to be a tough field of competition for Dominguez Hills as nearly half of the teams participating the tournament were ranked nationally by Golfstat, two of which are in NCAA Division III. No. 33 UC San Diego ended up winning the team side of the invite with an 888 while No. 3 Oklahoma Christian and host Cal State San Marcos tied for second with 90.
San Diego State's Steve Sugimoto, who competed as an individual, won the medalist honor with an 8-under 208. Within the Division II ranks, Oklahoma Christian's Trevor Norby came up even at 216 to be the group's top finisher.
The Toros head to Nevada next month for the Las Vegas Desert Classic hosted by the University of Missouri – St. Louis at the Royal Links Golf Course.
