Wonder Smith both scored 15 points, but it wasn't enough as the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball team got stampeded 74-55 by No. 25 Cal Poly Pomona at Kellogg Arena Saturday night.
The Toros (8-8, 4-6 CCAA) couldn't cool down the Broncos (12-3, 8-2 CCAA), who ended up shooting 52 percent (28-for-54) from the field. The Toros ended up shooting 35.6 percent (21-for-59) while going 8-for-33 from the 3-point line.
Kaden Bradley contributed to 13 points while leading the Toros with 8-of-31 rebounds.
Phoenix Shackelford and Riley Schaefer both had 21 points to lead the Broncos. Schaefer also had 10 rebounds for a double-double.
Both sides started out even for the first five minutes. After the Broncos got a layup to break a 7-7 tie,
Colten Kresl and Smith both hit 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions to put the Toros ahead for their only lead in the game. The Broncos would go on a 9-0 stampede after to take a 21-13 lead midway through the half.
Trailing 39-27 at intermission, the Toros started the second half on a 7-0 run that would shrink the gap down to five, the closest deficit in the period.
The Toros return to the Torodome Thursday to welcome Humboldt State for their only meeting of the year. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
