CARSON –
Nick Kornieck scored 14 points and
Colten Kresl contributed to 13 as the duo got the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball team back on the winning track with a 64-39 win over Sonoma State at the Torodome Saturday.
After a close battle in the beginning, the Toros (7-3, 3-1 CCAA) outscored the Seawolves (3-7, 2-2 CCAA) 22-12 within the final 9:30 in the period to take a 33-17 lead into halftime.
After shooting 31.6 percent at Cal State East Bay on Thursday for a season-low, the Toros made that a short memory by shooting 41.3 percent against Sonoma State.
Defense was also key to Dominguez Hills' win. Not only did the Toros, once again, win the rebounding 43-33, but they held the Seawolves to a 27.5 shooting percentage. They also limited Sonoma's leading scorer Isaac Davidson to five points. He currently averages 18.7 points per game.
Jeremy Lillis led the effort for the Seawolves with 11 points.
The Toros will put aside their ball and shoes and pull out their textbooks to prepare for finals, which begins Tuesday. They will resume play December 17 against No. 4 UC San Diego at 7:30 p.m. The Tritons were upset at home by Chico State Thursday night.
