HAYWARD – Pioneer Gymnasium continues to be a haunting venue the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball team.
Cal State East Bay's defense limited Dominguez Hills to a season-low 31.6 percent from the field with only four successful baskets from beyond the arc as the Toros dropped a 72-48 defeat to the Pioneers Thursday evening.
Dominguez Hills (6-3, 2-1 CCAA) sees its impressive six-game win streak come to an abrupt halt.
Nick Kornieck led the effort for the Toros with 10 points, with all three of his field goals coming from 3-point range.
Andrew Whitsett contributed to eight points while
Colten Kresl added seven.
The Pioneers (6-3, 2-1 CCAA), who made 44.4 percent of their field goals, saw three reach double figures in points with their leading scorer Zafir Williams dropping 15.
Despite the struggles against East Bay's defense, the Toros did win the rebounding column 38 to the Pioneers 32.
Kaden Bradley led that category individually with seven.
The Toros had led by as many as two on three different occasions in the first half. Dominguez Hills would find itself trailing 34-22 at halftime.
Dominguez Hills has not tasted a victory on the Hayward campus since 2013 and will have to wait until next season or a return visit in the CCAA Championship first found in March to get another opportunity.
The Toros head home to welcome Sonoma State to the Torodome Saturday at 3 p.m. The Seawolves are coming off a 67-59 loss on the road to Cal State San Marcos tonight.
