Men's Hoops Signs Four More for 2016-17

CARSON -- Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball head coach Steve Becker has inked four talented and explosive recruits to begin competing for the Toros in 2016-17.  Forwards in freshman Malcolm Johnson, graduate student Theo Johnson and sophomore Michael Hatfield will join guard Glenn Baral as the next four signees for Becker, who is looking for CSUDH to improve upon last year's 11th place finish in the California Collegiate Athletic Association standings as well as replace four seniors who finished their eligibility last year.

The quartet will join Raefel Agee on the court next season after the 6-8 forward, currently a senior at Silverado High School in Victorville, signed during the early signing period.

Theo Johnson, a 6-7 Sacramento native who attended Division I Liberty University in Virginia, will have just one year of eligibility for the Toros, and brings solid numbers back to the west coast.  He was Liberty's top player during the 2014-15 season, averaging 10.0 points, 4.6 boards and 1.7 assists per game after playing two seasons at the College of Charleston, also hitting 43% of his shots from the floor and 73% from the foul line.

"Theo has played at a high level for the past three years, and is going to be one of the most versatile players in the CCAA," predicts Becker.  "His athleticism will allow him to score in a variety of ways, and will create match-up problems for a lot of teams.  His ability to both finish above the rim and excel in transition is going to allow him to play several different positions, and will be someone Toro fans are really going to enjoy watching."

At 6-8, Michael Hatfield averaged 11.3 points and 6.4 rebounds per game in one year Modesto Junior College last year, converting on 51.7% of his field goal attempts that included a solid 43.5% success rate from 3-point land.

"We are very excited about the opportunity to work with Mikey for the next three years," begins Becker.  "He is a very intelligent young man whose feel for the game and ability to stretch the floor will add depth to our post play and give him an opportunity to impact the game immediately.  He comes to CSUDH with a 3.5 GPA, we expect big things from him."

A dynamic freshman from Centennial High School in Bakersfield, Malcolm Johnson will bring solid credentials to Carson with him starting next year.  A 6-5 forward, Johnson was named both the team's and Bakersfield County Player of the Year as a junior, and to the 1st-team All-Area as a senior when he averaged 15 points and 11 board per game.

"Malcolm is a special young man, an exceptional student with a great work ethic and has the physical tools to be a real force in the CCAA for years to come, and we are thrilled to welcome Malcolm and his family to Carson," says Becker.  "With the guidance of his parents and his coach in Hernan Santiago at Centennial, he has tremendous character and a fierce work ethic, and we can't wait to get him on campus."

The final recruit in this bunch, Glenn Baral brings versatility to Carson after one season at Clark College in Vancouver, Washington, that followed a season at Division I Steton University in Florida. A 6-4 playmaker, Baral averaged 11.8 points and 5.3 rebounds per game, connecting on nearly half his shots from the floor and 43% from 3-point land.

"Glenn is a big guard who's really versatile and understands the game," begins Becker.  "He shoots the ball at a high percentage and will be able to immediately impact the winning process.  He is a tremendous student with a great deal of character and we are excited for Glenn to bring his leadership and experience to Carson."
