Darnell Martin Inks Professional Basketball Contract in Germany

CARSON -- Just five months removed from competing in his final season donning Cardinal and Gold, Cal State Dominguez Hills power forward Darnell Martin has signed a contract to play professional basketball for TV Salzkotten of the Regionalliga I, in Salzkotten, Germany.

"It feels great to be a professional basketball player, something I dreamed about all my life," he says ecstatically. "The years I spent at CSUDH helped me make my dream come true and I just want to thank the Toro family for everything."

Martin enjoyed a solid two-year career for the Toros, starting 35 of 52 games while averaging 10.9 points and 6.4 boards per contest.  He also contributed 63 assists, 22 steals and 15 blocks while scoring in double figures 14 times as a senior, including a 20-point effort against Sonoma State in which he drained 8-of-11 attempts from the charity stripe.

While competing for TV Salzkotten, Martin will train with Finke Baskets Paderborn of the PRO A league, a well-respected and highly-competitive European Conference.

"I am excited for DJ to get the opportunity to play professionally at a high level, and experience all that overseas basketball has to offer," begins CSUDH men's basketball interim head coach Steve Becker.  "He has continued to work hard this off season and is in great shape. It has always been a goal of his to play professionally, and now he needs to make the most of the opportunity and enjoy the process."
