Toros Drop 4-3 Shootout at Fresno Pacific

Box Score

FRESNO -- Junior Andrew Johnson notched a goal and assist as the Toros roared back with three goals after trailing 1-nil, but host Fresno Pacific got the final say with three unanswered goals of its own to take an old fashioned 4-3 shootout in non-conference action.

The Toros fall to 1-2-1 with the loss, its second straight after opening the season with a tie and a win, while the Sunbirds improve to 2-0.

After falling behind 1-0 just 10 minutes into the match, CSUDH responded with three straight goals to open the second half to lead 3-1 with 30 minutes remaining. Tony Alfaro, Daniel Herrera and Andrew Johnson found the back of the net for CSUDH.

The Sunbirds received a goal to cut the lead to 3-2 at the 61st minute, which changed the momentum of the game and brought FPU back to life.

Following a red card issued to a player with 20 minutes remaining, FPU continued to attack despite being down a man. FPU capitalized on a penalty following a takedown of a Sunbird attacker in the box to knot the game 3-3, before a cross deflected by a Toro defender into his own net made the difference 4-3.

The Sunbirds were outshot 18-11 on the night while the contest's physicality was evident as six cards were issued in the match.

The Toros return home on Sunday, Septemer 14, to host Marymount California University for a 2:30 pm first kick in Toro Stadium.
