CARSON -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills men's soccer team was heading into a well-earned 1-1 draw with No. 9 Cal State San Bernardino in a key California Collegiate Athletic Association primetime match-up between perennial powers, but the visiting Yotes spoiled the night by scoring the game-winner with just 31 ticks left in regulation to hand the Toros a 2-1 defeat at Toro Stadium.
Eduardo Moreno, Jr. tallied the lone goal for CSUDH, which falls to 5-5-5 overall, and 3-3-3 in CCAA play.
The Yotes, who now sit in 2nd place in the CCAA with three matches left in the regular season, opened the scoring in the 12th minute, where the score stayed until the 68:32 mark.
That's when Moreno collected a
Juan Calderon cross, and found the upper left V to equalize.
The teams looked to settle for a point apiece with a draw 31 seconds away until the Yotes struck for the game-winner.
CSUSB tallied a 22 to 15 advantage in shots including a slim 9 to 7 edge in shots on goal. Each team was whistled for 14 fouls with seven cautions between them including a red on the Yotes after the match.
Jose Peredia tallied a team-high four shots with two coming on frame in the loss.
The Toros sit seventh in the CCAA standings with three matches left in the regular season, with the top seven teams qualifying for the CCAA Championship Tournament, beginning on November 1, on the campus of Cal Poly Pomona.
CSUDH looks to solidify its position on Sunday, hosting Cal State San Marcos for a 2 pm first touch in Toro Stadium.
