Bats Come Alive in 10-2 Win at Cal State L.A.

Box Score

LOS ANGELES -- Having missed out on a bases loaded, no-out opportunity in the ninth inning in yesterday's loss to Cal State L.A., the Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team left nothing to chance in a 10-2, 16-hit win over the Golden Eagles tonight to even the final CCAA series for both teams.

Senior Danny Haley and junior Kamran Young each belted three hits, with Bubby Rossman hammering his seventh home run of the year, an opposite field shot and Brennan Bernardino (pictured) fanning eight in 7.0 innings of shutout ball to improve to 5-0 on the year.

The Toros move to 22-25, 16-22 CCAA with the win.

CSUDH left little doubt in this game, scoring a pair of runs in four of the first six innings to take an 8-0 lead.

An Alex Sixtos RBI double and Adrian Guzman sacrifice fly in the second started the scoring in the second, with RBI doubles by Peter Ives and Young bringing home two more runs in the third.

After being retired in order in the fourth, the Toros put up two more in the fifth on Rossman's opposite field dinger with Danny Haley on base after Haley began the frame with a single and stole both second and third bases.

The Toros then added two more in the sixth on a David Steininger RBI double and a Rossman bases loaded walk to force home another run.

Up 8-0, CSUDH added two more for good measure in the eighth on Hayden Maurice and Sixtos sacrifice flies, before CSULA final scored in the bottom of the ninth, disappointing its seniors on "Senior Night."

That was plenty for Bernardino, who faced just five batters over the minimum for seven innings of work, making 93 pitches in the win.

Steininger, Sixtos and Guzman added with two hits of their own, with a trio of Toros scoring two runs apiece.

The two teams will conclude the regular season tomorrow in Carson with a double-header as the Toros honor 15 seniors in between games.  Both contests will be streamed live on the Toro Sports Network, with David Smock calling the final two games of the 2013-14 school year.
