Toros Salvage Series Finale Behind Bernardino's Stellar Effort

Brennan Bernardino improved to 4-0 with his 8-inning, 5-hit gem
Box Score

CARSON -- Senior lefty Brennan Bernardino tossed 8.0 innings of 5-hit, shutout ball in leading the Cal State Dominguez Hills to a 7-0 win over visiting Cal State East Bay to salvage one of the four CCAA games.

The Toros belted 12 hits in the win, led by a 3-for-4 effort from Kamran Young as CSUDH improves to 18-22, 13-19 CCAA, and snaps a seven-game skid.

The hosts started the scoring early, scoring single runs in the second, third an fourth innings on RBI singles by Taylor Kahanowitch, Bubby Rossman and Alex Sixtos, before breaking the game open with three in the fifth.

In that frame, a wild pitch sent Danny Haley across home plate, with Hayden Maurice following on a Rossman double down the right field line, and Rossman crossing home plate himself on a Young baseknock.

The Toros added an unearned run in the seventh to more than give Bernardino enough support as the southpaw tossed one of the best games of the season in allowing just three hits through seven innings and escaping a bases loaded jam in the eighth to team up for the shutout win with reliever Cody Yates.

Haley, Rossman and Sixtos each belted two hits with Rossman driving home two to lead the run producers.

Bernardino tossed just one pitch shy of the century mark, fanning six against just two walks.

The Toros continue hosting duties next weekend as San Francisco State visits Toro Field, with Friday's first pitch set for 3:00 pm.
