Seawolves Stage Wild Walk-Off Win in Series Finale

Box Score

ROHNERT PARK -- Leading by one entering the bottom of the ninth inning and three outs away from a series split, Cal State Dominguez Hills let one get away as host Sonoma State rallied with two runs on a hit batter, three walks and a wild pitch to take a 4-3 win, and three of four games in the series.

CSUDH starter Brennan Bernardino tossed 5.2 innings and allowed no earned runs in taking a no-decision as CSUDH dips to 10-12, 5-10 CCAA.

Bernardino kept the SSU bats at bay despite the Seawolves scoring single runs in both the first and third innings, with both unearned after a passed ball and throwing error aided the hosts' cause.

CSUDH cut its deficit in half in the fourth after SSU committed its own error, with Nick Wagner bringing home Aaron Gray with a sacrifice fly.

The Toros added a pair to take the lead in the seventh without getting a hit, courtesy of a SSU passed ball and a wild pitch, serving as a harbinger two innings later.

In the ninth, reliever Wagner, who was starting his third inning, hit the first batter he faced in the frame, induced a foul out on the next batter, issued a walk to the next one and fanned the fourth batter to put two on with two out.

Another walk loaded the bases, with the third and final free pass of the inning forcing in the tying run, as well as allowing the winning run to score on a passed ball, all without a hit allowed.

Five Toros notched a hit each while SSU stroked seven in the win, including the lone extra-base hit of the game.

CSUDH plays at Azusa Pacific next Friday in an added game to make up a regular season rain out earlier this year, followed by a single CCAA contest at Cal Poly Pomona the following Tuesday as another make-up, courtesy of Mother Nature.
