Gogue Stellar as Toros Take Finale in 5-0 Shutout Over NNU

Box Score

CARSON -- Junior lefty Jeffrey Gogue made his starting debut for Cal State Dominguez Hills a memorable one in the series finale against Northwest Nazarene, tossing 8.0 innings of four-hit, scoreless ball to lead the Toros to 5-0 win over the Crusaders en route to capturing the series three games to one.

With the win, CSUDH improves to 5-2 on the year, while NNU falls to 1-8.

After yesterday's split that included a loss in the nightcap, the Toros came out on fire to begin the game notching three in the 1st and two in the 2nd to account for all the game's scoring.

In their first at-bat, a pair of singles and sacrifice bunt led to a Nick Wagner RBI single, followed by a two-run job by Hayden Maurice, who continued his hot hitting.

One inning later, a NNU error put Rico Pena on base, after which Peter Ives connected for his second hit in as many innings, this time a double to plate Pena.

Danny Haley followed with a single to advance Ives to third, which preceded Ives' successful thievery of a double-steal as Haley was caught in a rundown.

That was plenty for Gogue, who faced just 30 batters and allowed just one extra base hit in the win.

Ives enjoyed a 3-for-4 effort, with Haley's 2-for-4 game giving the Toros a pairl of multi-hit batters.

Opportunistic, the Toros capitalized on a pair of NNU errors, scoring two unearned runs in the win.

CSUDH will enjoy its alumni game tomorrow morning at 11:30 am, before kicking off CCAA action on Thursday, with a single game against CS San Bernardino set for 2 pm on Toro Field.
