CARSON -- A perfect corner kick from Chico State found its intended targets in front of the Cal State Dominguez Hills net, and the result was a Danielle Leiva header over a leaping Jennifer Ackerly to give the visiting Wildcats an intense 2-1 overtime win on a hot morning in Toro Stadium.

Freshman Naomi Linares scored her first goal as a Toro in the 68th minute to give CSUDH a short-lived edge as the Toros fell to 3-4-1, 2-3-1 CCAA.

After a scoreless first half in which both teams rattled off four shots, the Toros kicked off the scoring after Natalie Barbosa sent a cross to Linares, who one-touched the ball past Wildcat keeper Brianna Furner for a 1-0 lead.

CSUC, however, equalized eight minutes later after Hannah Halstenson collected a loose ball in front of the Toro net and sent it over Ackerly at 75:37, 25 seconds after she checked into the game.

After the two teams seemed to be heading into a scoreless first overtime, a corner by Emily Shleppey found Gail Bassett outside the 6-yard box, where Bassett's header found Leiva for the golden goal.

The Toros out-shot the Wilcats 8-7, with Ackerly making four saves compared to Furner's three.

Linares, Gabrielle Pena and Chavez enjoyed solid contests with their continual pressure throughout the game.

CSUDH takes to the road next weekend before returning home on Friday, October 11, to host CS Stanislaus in the Stub Hub Center's "Main Stadium."
