Toros Nearly Left in Dark in Twinbill Split vs Pt. Loma Nazarene

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CARSON -- Cal State Dominguez Hills survived the elements and itself in taking a 9-6, 6 inning nightcap win over visiting Point Loma Nazarene, committing three errors in the game and having the game called due to darkness with the Sea Lions having scored twice in the 7th and placing runners on the corners with two out.

Chris Allen (pictured) enjoyed a monster 4-for-4, 2RBI outing, and was aided by Carlos Avila's 2-4, 3RBI, 2R effort as CSUDH improved to 3-2 with the win after PLNU took a 5-3 decision in today's opener.

After spotting the visitors a pair of runs in the top of the first, the Toros plated 5 runs in the first two innings, the big blows courtesy of a PLNU wild pitch in the first and three RBIs one inning later.

PLNU would tie the game two innings later before CSUDH plated three in the fifth to take the lead for good.

In the frame, an Avila triple to right center drove home two, before Avila scored himself on an Allen double one batter later.

Matt Montgomery picked up the win after tossing 2.0 innings, allowing 4 hits and 2 earned runs.

In the opener, CSUDH scored single runs in the 3rd and 4th innings, with Avila, Kevin Logan and a PLNU error cashing in the two.

The visitors, however, would answer with 5 unanswered over a three-inning span to take the lead for good, and withstand a single run by the Toros in the bottom of the eighth for their first win of the year.

Newcomer David Haerle suffered the hard-luck loss after getting just two outs, allowing 2 hits and 3 unearned runs.

Allen, Logan and Alex Sixtos each chipped in two hits in the opener, with Allen and Sixtos each knocking a double.

CSUDH, now 3-2, will host former alumni in its annual "Alumni Game" tomorrow at 11 am , before kicking off CCAA Conference play on Friday against Chico State at Toro Field.
