WALNUT CREEK – Cal State Dominguez Hills' Tayler Champion has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of December 16-22, it was just announced by the CCAA Office.
This is Champion's first CCAA POW honor.
The junior transfer averaged a double-double as the Toros won the women's side of the Las Vegas Tournament, hosted by Dixie State.
In Wednesday's 96-77 win over the Red Storm she scored 23 points after shooting 10-for-18 from the floor with three shots made from three-point range, also pulling down 11 rebounds.
The following day Champion recorded 22 points and snagged a season-best 16 boards as Cal State Dominguez Hills defeated defending PacWest Champion Academy of Art, 69-53.
In 52 minutes played, the Inglewood native averaged 22 points per game and 13.5 rebounds per game with two steals, a block, and an assist.
The Toros are off for the holiday but will resume CCAA action at home on January 3, hosting Sonoma State for a 5:30 pm tip in the Torodome.
