Hot Shooting Fuels Toros in 82-53 Win Over CS Stanislaus

Box Score

CARSON -- One game after scoring a career-high 29 points in a win at Sonoma State, true freshman Monay Lee followed with a game-high 25 points as Cal State Dominguez Hills coasted to an 82-53 win over visiting Cal State Stanislaus in league action this afternoon.

With the win, the Toros improve to 5-8, 4-5 CCAA, winning consecutive games for the first time since the 2009-10 season.  The Warriors, meanwhile, fall to 2-12, 1-8 CCAA, still searching for their first road win of the year.

The Toros started hot to open the game, scoring the first seven points with the last coming on a Julia Poecksteiner jumper en route to taking an eventual 16-2 lead on a pair of Monay Lee free throws just five minutes into the contest.

CSUDH continued to push the action, using aggressive play on the offensive end to keep the pressure on the Warrior en route to a 32-14 lead wtih 4:41 left in the half.

A run by the Warriors at the end of the period cut into their deficit as the Toros took a 38-21 lead entering the break, led by Lee's 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor, including 5-of-6 from the foul line as CSUDH shot 53.6% from the field compared to just 31.0% for the visitors.

The Warriors turned the tables on the Toros to begin the second half, using a 6-0 run to trim their deficit to 13 at 38-25 just two minutes in.

CSUDH, answered, however, regaining its aggressive play on the offensive end while many Warrior attempts continued to find the rim, and bounce off.

Saddled wtih nine team fouls less less than nine minutes into the second half, the Toros capitalized on a plethora of one-and-ones to push their lead to 54-36 with 11 minutes left in regulation, the last two freebies courtesy of Jamie Robinson, en route to the 29-point win, their largest of the year.

Lee added two rebounds in the win as the Toros shot 49% from the field compared to 31% for the Warriors.

Free throws provided a significant amount of points for CSUDH as the Toros drained 19-of-26, compared to just 9-of-13 for CSUS.

Rebounds also teetered in the Toros' favor to the tune of a 47 to 33 advantage.

Julia Poecksteiner and Robynn Cochran added 11 points each, with Cochran and Kira Demorales pulling down a game-high 7 boards each.

The Toros will look to make it three-straight tomorrow night against head coach Molly Goodenbour's former team in 13th-ranked Chico State, with first tip set for 5:30 pm.  The game will be streamed live on the Toro Sports Network by clicking here.
