RIVERSIDE -- Despite tallying an 18-7 shot advantage over host Cal Baptist in the Lancers' home opener, CBU benefited from a second-half own goal and made it stand in a 1-0 win over a very talented Cal State Dominguez Hills in their home opener.

The reigning Pacific West Conference and NCCAA National Champion Lancers improve to 2-0 while the Toros fall to 0-1-1. It is the Lancers' first ever win over Cal State Dominguez Hills.

"We were not very good today, and a lot of that had to do with the fact that we played against a very good team," said CBU Head Coach Ryan Jorden. "They were terrific and we got a lot of things exposed that will hopefully allow for us to get better."

The Toros outshot the Lancers 18-7, including a 10-3 margin in the second half. But it was the Lancers who were able to get on the board.

In the 54th minute, Tyler Aagard knuckled a ball towards the goal from the left side. A Toro defender attempted to clear it, but as he swung at the ball, he miss-hit it and the ball spun off the side of his foot and into the net for what turned out to be the game's only goal.

"I told the guys at halftime that we weren't good in the first half but I was happy to be level, because we didn't deserve to be," said Jorden.

"The fact that we were able to grind one out says a lot about the character of our team, but at the same time it paints a picture to the guys that we have a long way to go to be a good team."

Clinging to a 1-0 lead, the Lancers had to burn off the final half hour while at the same time beat the impending darkness and they did so continually parrying away multiple Toro attacks.  Keeper Joey Pacheco stood on his head for the entire game, collecting seven saves, including a couple at point-blank range, to keep the Toros off the board.

Pacheco and the Lancer defense posted their second straight shutout, and for Pacheco it was his 12th career clean sheet.
