LA JOLLA -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team suffered a big defeat Monday night in a 15-6 series finale loss at UC San Diego, as the CCAA-leading Tritons took the series, three games to one.

The Tritons improve their record to 24-16 and 22-10 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.  The Toros fall to 11-25 overall, 7-21 in conference play.

From the first pitch the game was an offensive battle.  The Toros, much like both games in Sunday's doubleheader, were on the board first with two runs scored in the top of the first.

Young led the game off with a triple to left-center field followed by an RBI single hit by Carlos Avila.  After Sako Chapjian was hit by a pitch for the ninth time this season, Chris Allen reached first on a fielder's choice, advancing Avila home for the final run of the inning for the Toros.

Jonathan Boersma was the final starter of the series, but struggled to hold off the Tritons from the second batter faced.  With four hits offered up, a hit batter, and a Toro defensive error, the Tritons took the lead with five runs scored to answer back.

After the Tritons added one more earned run in the second the Toros fought back to stay in the game with two more runs scored in the third inning.  The top of the fourth was in favor of the Toros once again, scoring another run, which then brought the teams closer.

Matt Montgomery came in as relief after Boersma was knocked from the game after just 3.2 innings of work.  In Boersma's time on the mound he was charged with eight earned runs on 10 hits.

Errors affected the Toros once again with all but one of six Triton runs in the final 4.1 innings being of the earned variety.

Leading on offense for the Toros was Matt Akiyama who connected for 3 hits and two RBI on the night.  Carlos Avila was 2-for-5 with a run scored and two runs batted in.  Matthew Young had the largest hit of the night with a triple, hitting 1-for-3 total with a run scored as well.

The Toros continue their CCAA action on the road this weekend, traveling to Seaside to battle Cal State Monterey Bay in a four-game set.
