Toros Impactful During Magruder Middle School "College Week" Visit

TORRANCE -- Ten Cal State Dominguez Hills student-athletes encompassing five of its athletics programs were represented at Magruder Middle School earlier this month as part of the school's annual "College Week," giving the middle schoolers an opportunity to mingle with college student-athletes and ask questions about college life.

The Toros visited the middle school on two-consecutive days, reaching out to hundreds of pre-teens and teenagers during PE classes and lunch.

Day one welcomed golf's Garrett Szubielski, men's basketball's Ricardo de la Rosa, men's soccer's Trey Mitchell and women's basketball's Sami Feinstein and Allison Ruvalcaba, with volleyball's Azieanna Smith, Nikki Castrellon, Whitney Lee, Konstance Kirby and spring admit Tanner David joining Szubielski on day two of the visit.

"Having the Cal State Dominguez student athletes come visit us during our college week has meant a lot to Magruder because they always encourage the students to do their best, reach for their goals and work hard," begins Magruder counselor Christine Barker.

"The student athletes bring a fresh enthusiasm to our campus and our students are given a first hand peek into the life of a college student, which gets them thinking about going to college, too.

"The student athletes are always kind, caring, and patient as our students like to show off a little athletic skill and win their approval."

Student Alexis enjoyed the visit.  "I like when they come because they give us information and let us konw that college isn't boring at all.  What I got out of it was that you can accomplish your dreams, whether it's basketball, soccer, cheerleading or even volleyball.  You can do all these things or other activities in college as long as you get good grades."

Student Gabi mentioned that "It makes students want to be like them and go to college," while fellow Mustang Madisyn commented, "They inspired me to be devoted to the sport I play and to continue on so I can play in college."
