Canned Food Drive Totals Continue to Rise in the CCAA

WALNUT CREEK – The 12 California Collegiate Athletic Association Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) programs continue to show improvement in fourth annual CCAA canned food drive.

The project was designed to raise awareness to the prevalence of hunger in communities surrounding the 12 CCAA institutions, which includes collecting cans and providing the donations to local food banks.

The project resulted in the CCAA collecting a total of 6,315 cans, an increase of 1,387 cans from 2013.  As a conference, the SAAC averaged 526.25 cans per institution, an increase of 115.59 cans per school.

Cal State L.A. has reached the highest total of donations for the fourth consecutive year with a total of 1772 cans, an increase of 422 cans. Sonoma State, which improved from its 2013 total of 204 cans to a conference second-best total of 1374 cans, recorded the largest increase among all 12 institutions.

Eight of 12 CCAA schools improved from last years total by at least seven cans, with Cal State Dominguez Hills and San Francisco State joining the Golden Eagles with a triple-digit improvement.
