Volleyball Makes It Two-Straight in 3-1 Win Over Lumberjacks

Toros set program record for most conference wins, surpassing 1999's total of 8

Box Score
CARSON -- Cal State Dominguez Hills continued its winning ways after a close first set loss, taking out visiting Humboldt State in a 3-1 decision.  Elizabeth Krieger tied for match-high honors with 15 kills, adding 16 digs in the 26-28, 25-19, 25-16, 25-10 win.

With the decision, CSUDH improves to 11-16, 9-11 CCAA while setting the program record of most conference wins after surpassing 1999's total of eight, while the 'Jacks fall to 3-24, 1-19 CCAA.

Coming off an inspiring sweep over Cal Poly Pomona on Friday, the Toros failed to match last night's energy against a Lumberjack team that has just one league win to its credit.  Controlling the action early behind Abbey Prusa's 7 kills and leading by as much as five late in the set at 23-18 with five set points at CSUDH's disposal, HSU rallied behind 6 kills by Alexa Rosendale en route to a 28-26 set one win.

The second set was nearly a carbon copy of the first as CSUDH turned a 6-6 tie into a 14-9 advantage, only to have the Lumberjacks close to 21-17 late.  This time, however, the Toros stayed on the gas pedal, scoring four of the final six points in the 25-19 win.

The Toros rolled after intermission, turning an 8-8 tie into a 23-15 lead behind the strong serving of Dana Brown.  CSUDH was bolstered by 10 attack errors and a .000 hitting percentage by the 'Jacks with Whitney Lee putting down 3 kills in the 25-16 win.

Brown gave the Toros a shot in the arm in set four, staking the hosts to a 9-0 lead on her serve en route to a 19-7 edge, eventually closing out the 'Jacks on the strong serve of, fittingly, Brown, who served the final five points in the win.

Prusa tied with Krieger with 15 kills with just four hitting errors, with Whitney Lee chipping in 12 kills.

As a team, CSUDH hit .259 compared to just .100 for HSU, with Brown dishing 47 assists and adding 11 digs.

CSUDH concludes its 2012 season next weekend as it hosts CS Stanislaus and Chico State, with both matches set for a 7 pm first serve.
