CARSON -- With the month of October being National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's and men's soccer team will do their part on Friday, October 12, as they host Cal State San Bernardino in league action.
The Toro women, at 3-7-2, 2-7-1 CCAA, have endured a tough season thus far, suffering five shutouts all by 1-0 counts. Last weekend, however, they posted a hard-fought 2-1 double-overtime win over San Francisco State after giving then 5th-rank UC San Diego all it could handle in La Jolla in a 1-1 double-overtime draw.
The men, meanwhile, enter this weekend as one of hottest teams in the CCAA, having won three straight and five of its last six to move into a tie for the third-most points in league action, with the top four teams earning berths to the CCAA Championship Tournament on November 2 and 4, hosted by the Toros.
National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM), is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness and funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure. The campaign also offers information and support to those affected by breast cancer.
As well as providing a platform for breast cancer charities to raise awareness of their work and of the disease, BCAM is also a prime opportunity to remind women to be breast aware for earlier detection.
NBCAM was founded in 1985 as a partnership between the American Cancer Society. The aim of the NBCAM from the start has been to promote mammography as the most effective weapon in the fight against breast cancer.
The women kick off at 4:30 pm in Toro Stadium, followed by the men at 7 pm.
