Coyotes Take 2-1 Decision Over Toros to Sweep Series

Box Score
CARSON -- Freshman Katelyn Fregosi connected for the first collegiate goal of her career to knot the game at 1-1, but visiting Cal State San Bernardino replied with the game-winner in the 63rd minute to take a hard-fought 2-1 win over the Toros on a cool night in Carson.

With the loss, CSUDH falls to 3-8-2, 2-8-1 CCAA, while CSUSB improves to 7-4-2, 5-4-1 CCAA.

The 'Yotes jumped on the Toros early, out-shooting their hosts 8-3 in the first session.

The game looked to go into halftime scoreless until a free kick from 45 yards out by Ashley Wolf with less than 10 seconds left before intermission found the feel of Priscilla Gomez, who slotted her shot past CSUDH keeper Tiffany Hollis for a 1-0 lead at the 44:55 mark.

It didn't take long for the Toros to reply, however, as freshman Fregosi did the honors.

After collecting a rebounded shot off the foot of Olivia Patterson, Fregosi drove her low line drive past CSUSB keeper Priscilla Collings for the equalizer.

The Toros continued to pepper Collings in the second half, but Collings was up to the challenge with 7 saves in the period.

Hollis, meanwhile, was victimized by CSUSB's lone chance in the second half, resulting in the game-winner.

In a picture-perfect sequence, a Kelly Keyes service found Guadalupe Lara down the left hand side, where she crossed to a streaking Katie Gagner.

Coming from Hollis' left side, Gagner received the cross and re-directed her header with a flick to her right, scooting the ball past Hollis and into the bottom corner.

Hollis finished with 1 save while Collings ended with 8.

CSUDH designated this match as its "Kick For A Cure" contest, hoping to raise awareness for breast cancer and wearing pink warm-ups to honor those who are battling the disease and who have battled it.

The Toros will host 25th-ranked UC San Diego on Sunday at 11:30 am, after honoring their 8 seniors in a pre-game ceremomy.
