Run Continues After 1-0 Win Over Solid Coyotes Squad

Box Score
CARSON -- Make that four in a row.  After the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's soccer team started with just one win in their first six matches, a defensive-minded 1-0 win over visiting Cal State San Bernardino gave the Toros their fourth-straight win, and sixth in their last seven games.  Defender Jordan Hatanaka provided the offensive spark with the game's only goal in the 34th minute.

With the win, CSUDH improves to 7-5-1, 7-4 CCAA, while CSUSB falls to 4-2-6, 4-2-4 CCAA.

In a defensive battle in which the teams combined for just 7 shots in the first half, a loose ball in the 'Yote box proved the difference after 2 touches found Hatanaka in the goal mouth, where his shot nestled past CSUSB keeper Tanner Olinger far post.

The Toro defense and keeper Trey Mitchell did the rest, avenging an earlier 2-0 loss to the Coyotes in San Bernardino on September 14.

Mitchell finished with 2 saves compared to 3 for Olinger, with Aaron Salazar taking 2 of the team's 4 shots on goal.

The win puts the Toros in second place in the south division, one point ahead of UC San Diego and four points behind Cal State L.A. for one of two south division berths into the CCAA Tournament.

CSUDH designated this match as its "Kick For A Cure" contest, hoping to raise awareness for breast cancer and wearing black warm-ups with pink trim to honor those who are battling the disease.

The Toros and Tritons lock horns on Sunday at 2 pm, after CSUDH honors five seniors in a pre-match ceremony.
