Warriors Capture 57-53 Win Over Toros

Box Score
TURLOCK -- Cal State Dominguez Hills' Lyndsay Heard led the Toros once again offensively with 12 points, but she and the rest of the CSUDH team were unable to capture a road win against Cal State Stanislaus after a 57-53 loss Saturday night.

With both teams in need of their second California Collegiate Athletic Assocation win, the Warriors came out on top improving to 2-8 in the CCAA and 5-9 overall.  The Toros return home with a 1-9 record in conference play and 2-15 overall.

Both the Toros and Warriors were very evenly matched in the first half of play, with a tie score occuring five times.  Cal State Dominguez Hills took a small lead to start off the contest, but the score was tied three times throughout the first 11 minutes after a layup by Toro freshman Cwynnci Lobaugh, which resulted in a 9-9 score.

The Toros then took a comfortable lead after a 10-4 run.  Cal State Stanislaus fought hard to keep the Toros close and tied the score for the fourth time after CSUS senior Teresa Henderson's made layup brought the score to 23-all.  Both teams wrapped up the first twenty minutes knotted at 25-25.

Cal State Dominguez Hills took control and a six-point lead in the second half after consecutive three-pointers by Siedah Wilson and Lobaugh.  The Toros maintained the lead for the first 10 minutes of second half play, but the Warriors were not willing to wave the white flag as they tied the game with a 39-39 score after a made shot from the arc by senior guard Rosa Tirado with 9:20 left in regulation.

The game would become tied twice more throughout the contest, but the Toros were never able to regain the lead and inevitably fell to the Warriors.

Heard scored 10 second-half points to lead the Toros.  Lobaugh came off the bench and was able to tally 10 points on the night.  Alongside her six points, Porcha Davis led the Toros defensively with nine boards.

The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team will have a four-game home stand starting next weekend when they take on Cal Poly Pomona Friday night and San Francisco State Saturday night.
