Warriors Hand No. 23 Toros Second-Straight Shutout Loss

Box Score
CARSON -- No. 23 Cal State Dominguez Hills found itself in a defensive battle that resulted in just 11 total shot attempts, and visiting Cal State Stanislaus took full advantage in taking a physical 1-0 win to give the Toros their second-straight shutout loss of the weekend.  Freshman Henry Calistro tallied 3 of the shots in the loss.

This marks the first time since the 2008 NCAA Championship season that the Toros have been blanked in consecutive outings when UC San Diego forged a double-overtime tie before Cal State L.A. handed CSUDH a 1-0 loss, and the first time since 2006  that CSUDH has suffered back-to-back shutout losses when UC San Diego and Chico State blanked the Toros away from Toro Stadium.

The game was decided early as the Warriors struck first with Nolan Holdridge sent a cross to Manny Avila, who deflected his shot past keeper Markus Dickerson for a 1-0 lead.

That score proved plenty in the defensive and foul-filled contest as just 3 shots were attempted in the first half, followed by a total of 8 after the break.

A total of 36 fouls and 7 cautions were called, with 25 fouls and 5 yellows on the Warriors, who tallied a 6-5 shot and 2-0 corner kick advantage over the hosts.

Dickerson tallied a single save in the loss, while counterpart Bill Hambelton saved 3 in the shutout win.

CSUDH, now 3-2-1, 1-2-1 CCAA, concludes its lengthy homestand next Friday as UC San Diego visits Carson, with the game to be played at the Home Depot Center's Main Stadium.  The contest will be broadcast live on internet radio at www.GoToros.com/live.
