Five of CSUDH's 11 athletic teams paid a visit to Magruder Middle School during their "College Week"

Toros Mingle at Magruder During "College Week"

TORRANCE -- Fifteen Cal State Dominguez Hills student-athletes encompassing five of its 11 athletics programs were represented at Magruder Middle School earlier this month as part of the school's annual "College Week," giving the middle schoolers an opportunity to mingle with college student-athletes and ask questions about college life.

The Toros visited the middle school on two-consecutive days, reaching out to hundreds of pre-teens and teenagers during PE classes and lunch.

Day one welcomed women's basketbal's #Nikki Boutte#, #Ariana Caffey#, #Sherrie Hughes# and #Ella Rodriguez#, men's soccer's #Markus Dickerson# and spring admit Dimitri Aureles, and men's basketball's #Van Girard II# and #Rashad Bias#, with Boutte, Rodriguez and Girard II joining volleyball's #Shelbi Vopnford#, #Olivia White#, #Nikki Castrellon#, #Elizabeth Krieger#, #Cassidy Mangum# and #Abbey Prusa#, and golf's #Garrett Szubielski# on day two of the visit.

"It was great having Cal State Dominguez Hills student-athletes visit us again this year," said Magruder counselor Christine Barker who, along with Cody Guzman, served as hosts.

"It's important that our kids get to see students from their own neighborhood continue their higher education at a University right next door to us. And the Toros are great with not only playing sports with our kids, but also talking to them about what it takes to be both a student and athlete in college, and how skills such as discipline, sacrifice, time management and prioritizing play such a major part.

"It was really an eye-opening experience."
