No. 5 Tritons Run Away in 79-54 Win Over Toros

CARSON -- Visiting and 5th-ranked UC San Diego drained 52% of its shots from the field led by three players in double-figure scoring en route to a convincing 79-54 win over the Toros. Siedah Wilson led all scorers with 18 points in the loss.

In defeat, CSUDH falls to 1-6, 0-1 CCAA.

It was all UCSD from the opening tip as the Tritons raced to an 18-9 lead just six minutes in, increasing it to 37-20 at the 4:04 mark en route to a 44-28 advantage at the half.

The Toros kept it close to open the second period, cutting it to 13 at 45-32 on a Wilson jumper early.

The fifth-ranked Tritons, however, used a barrage of triples to stretch their lead into the 20s at 55-34 on an Emily Osga 3-pointer, keeping the Toros chasing a 20-point deficit the rest of the half.

UCSD's lead stretched to as high as 27 twice before a Nikki Boutte' bucket with 40 seconds left accounted for the 79-54 final.

Chelsea Carlisle led three Tritons in double-figure scoring with 14 points as UCSD held the Toros to just 33.3% from the field.

Sherrie Hughes again came up huge on the glass, collecting a game-high nine in the loss.

CSUDH looks to rebound tomorrow night against Cal State San Bernardino, which dropped a 79-56 decision to Cal State L.A. in earlier action. Tomorrow night's contest can be heard live on www.GoToros.com/live.
