Toros Lose a War in Four to CSU Stanislaus

Sophomore Elizabeth Krieger had a great evening on Saturday night

CARSON -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros volleyball team battled through four sets with the visiting Warriors of Cal State Stanislaus, but it wasn't enough in a four-set loss that keeps CSUDH winless in league play for the year as the Warriors boasted their three top hitters hitting over .470.  Sophomore Elizabeth Krieger had a near record-setting performance, gathering 22 kills at a clip of .364 to go with 13 digs.

After early back-and-forth action, CSUDH expanded its early lead to 17-12 to seemingly take control of the first set.  No one told the Warriors it was over, however, as they went on to score six-straight and 10 of the next 13 to take a 22-20 lead.  The Toros surged back and with the score tied at 24 and smashed the final two points of the set to win 26-24.  Krieger led the team with six kills, hitting a solid .455.

Momentum did not carry over as the Warriors scored the first point of set two and never looked back.  CSUS took set two 25-17 to even the match at one apiece, thanks in large part to hitting .538.  Krieger again led the team, this time with five kills and a service ace.

Following the 10 minute break, the Warriors continued to outplay the Toros and grow their lead to 17-12 in set three.  CSUDH responded by scoring six-straight to take an 18-17 lead before CSUS tallied 9 of the next 15 points en route to a set three 26-24 win.  Senior Olivia White was a perfect three-for-three on her attacks to go along with 11 assists in the set.

The fourth and final set was close to start before the Warrior attack turned it up a notch and took over the set, winning it 25-18 to take the match three sets to one.  Krieger again had six kills in the set.

For the match, CSUDH hit a solid .273 but were outdone by CSUS' .384.  The 20 attack errors hurt the Toros compared to only 11 by the Warriors.  Sophomore Abbey Prusa had a great night, smashing 12 kills while hitting .417.  White was stellar with a season-high in assists (46), digs (9) and kills with seven on only eight attempts.

The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros will return home next Friday night in the Torodome against Cal State East Bay, with the match set to begin at 6:00 pm.
