Toros Battle Warriors to the End in a 62-56 Defeat

TURLOCK -- Cal State Dominguez Hills made it a battle throughout against the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors, eventually falling by a 62-56 final. Turnovers and giving up offensive rebounds would do the Toros in despite shooting 42% from the field. Junior Nikki Boutte' sank three from behind the arc, totaling a team-high 13 points on the evening.

Things began well as the Toros scored the first two points on a layup by Sherrie Hughes 2:06 into the first half. CSU Stanislaus would score seven straight to take a five point lead, a lead they would maintain over remainder of the half. Turnovers once again haunted CSUDH as they committed 5 more turnovers leading to them taking 10 less shots in the half.  After scoring the final four points going into the locker room, the Toros only trailed 36-31 after being behind by as much as 12.  Junior Brittni Hulsizer was a perfect 3-for-3 from the field for eight points in the half.

The second half started very well for CSU Dominguez Hills as they would score the first seven points to lead the game at 38-36 with 15:03 left. Cal State Stanislaus missed their first 11 shots, many of them jumpers from the outside.  Over the next 8:30, neither team was able to grab a lead of more than four points. With the Toros up 52-51 with 6:37 left in regulation, CSUS would respond with eight straight points to take a seven point lead with 3:42 left in the game. The Toros would get within a triple but missed both attempts to tie the game, eventually dropping the decision 62-56.

For the game CSUDH committed 12 more turnovers leading to 15 less shots than the Warriors.

Junior Ashley Hudson scored 12 while grabbing four rebounds while senior Jessica Cannon had eight points and six rebounds.

The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros will continue their road CCAA trip at Cal State San Bernardino on Friday, February 4, at 5:30pm.
