No. 10 Toros Humbled in 10-1 and 21-3 Losses to No. 3 Tritons

Game 1  |  Game 2

CARSON -- Behind pre-game "Think Pink" festivities raising awareness for breast cancer, the No. 3 Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros were unable to capture the energy of the packed stands at Toro Field as they were routed in 10-1 and 21-3 decisions to the No. 3 Tritons of UC San Diego.  Overall, the bulk of the Toro offensive threat came way of Abel Medina, going 3-of-8 with a homer and two RBI.

In game one, the Toros left eight runners on and six in scoring position with less that two out, but were unable to capitalize on more than one run despite 11 team hits.

It took seven innings for the Toros to erase their goose eggs on the board as Derrek Duarte took a base on a single through the left before Carlos Leyva slotted an RBI single through the same hole, sending Duarte home.

Game two was more of the same as it again took the Toros six frames to come back from a 17-0 deficit as Medina knocked his eighth homer of the season down the right field line to bring in two runs for CSUDH.

A few at-bats later, Kevin Pillar knocked a single through the middle to extend his consecutive game hit-streak to 46 games, three short of tying the all-time NCAA Division II record of 49 games.

Perfect on the day, Kevin Logan went 2-of-2 with an RBI and a double, adding more evidence to his case of a legitimate CCAA Freshman of the Year candidate.

Starting in game one's action, Kody Kurowski hurled six straight, fanning five batters and scattering ten hits in the loss.  The game two loss went to David Fair who allowed six runs on eight hits, with three strikeouts.

The Toros, now 34-14 overall and 24-11 in the CCAA, will look to hold on to their No. 2 CCAA position as they close out the four game series with the Tritons (40-6, 30-5 CCAA) tomorrow at 12 noon in La Jolla.
