Indovina Claims All-CCAA and CCAA Newcomer of the Year Awards as Toros Finish 7th at CCAA Championships

Junior Ryan Indovina was named to the All-CCAA squad, as well as the CCAA Newcomer of the Year

PASO ROBLES -- Establishing himself as the top golfer on the Carson campus throughout the 2010 season and one of the top golfers in the league, junior Ryan Indovina earned All-CCAA and CCAA Newcomer of the Year honors as the Toros finished the CCAA Golf Championships in seventh place of eight teams competing.

Indovina, who also claimed CCAA Golfer of the Week honors earlier this year, moved up 10 spots after sitting in 30th place through day one of the two-day championships, finishing tied for 20th with teammate Cavin McCall after firing a 1-over 73, with McCall shooting a 2-over 74 to end the Championships with a 225 each.

Yesterday's best finisher for the Toros with a 7-over, Robby Mayes slipped into a tie for 36th place with Keith Johnson after his 88 today, good for a total of 239.

Johnson, who returned from injury last week, regrouped for a 5-over 77 after averaging a 9-over during yesterday's first two rounds, with Kenny Roberts placing 38th with a final round 79 and total of 241.

Individually, CS Monterey Bay's John Jackson took medalist honors with an 8-under 208 for the tournament, leading the Otters to the team title over CS Stanislaus by a single stroke, CSUMB's first-ever award.

Indovina's award marked the first-ever Newcomer of the Year honor for a CSUDH golfer, while CSUDH improved upon last year's finish by one place.

The Toros look to continue their 2010 season at the NCAA Regionals at Palm Desert, set for May 3-5, with the teams and individuals announced in the next few days.
