Toros Slip to 10th at Coyote Classic's Conclusion

SAN BERNARDINO -- Needing the morning session to finish the final two holes of round 2 after yesterday's session was called due to darkness, the Cal State Dominguez Hills golf team slipped from 5th to 10th place at the conclusion of the Coyote Classic, held at the Arrowhead Country Club.  Junior Ryan Indovina placed the highest Toro finish tied for 11th, while Robby Mayes moved up seven spots to tie for 36th in his first competition of the year.

After a 2-under for round one, Indovina fired a 4-over 74 for round 2, and followed that with a 1-over 71 to complete his tournament with a 3-over 213, joining six other golfers at 3-over.

Mayes was the lone Toro to decrease his score by round, finishing with a 10-over 220 (75-74-71), with Cavin McCall (74-73-78-225) and Kenny Roberts (74-74-77-225) sharing the 55th spot.  Fellow senior Shaun Engle rounded out the Toro quintet with a 239 (79-84-76).

Cal State Monterey Bay took the team title with an 848, three strokes ahead of runner-up Barry University, and 33 strokes ahead of the Toros.

Individually, CS San Bernardino's Gene Webster ran away from the field, his -14 emphasized by a 6-under 64 for the final round, with Chico State's Sylverster Gama, playing as an individual, finished at 7-under.  SSU sensation Patrick Bauer rounded out the top 3 with a 209, 1-under par.

The Toros resume action in three weeks at the SoCal Intercollegiate, hosted by UC San Diego.
