Indovina Places 3rd in Toro Debut as Team Finishes 8th to Open 2010 Golf Season

SAN MARCOS, Calif. -- Junior Ryan Indovina fired a 1-over 73 on the second and final day of the Cal State San Marcos-hosted Cougar Invitational, earning a 3rd-place finish in his Toro debut, just 3 strokes behind individual champion Carl Stjarnfalt of Cal Baptist, and just 1 stroke behind Holy Names' Stephen Edman, who finished second.

As a team, the Toros finished in 8th place of 12 teams competing.

The third and final round proved the most challenging for Indovina, but not by much.  After shooting par and 2-under for yesterday's two rounds to sit in second place after day one of competition, the Chicago native finished with a 73 on the day for an agate of 215 (72-70-73), followed by teammate Cavin McCall, whose 2-over 74 on the day pushed him up four places to 13th place (77-72-74-223).

After sitting in 11th following yesterday's two rounds with a 1-under and 4-over, Kenny Roberts ran into a bit of trouble this morning as his 87 gave him a total of 234, and a tie for 36th place.

Seniors Shaun Engle (T51st, 81-79-83-243) and Keith Johnson (58th, 83-81-86-250) rounded out the Toro contingent.

Indovina shot the best amongst all CCAA participants, with CS San Bernardino' Joe Alldis finishing the next highest at No. 11, a +5 for the tournament.

The Coyotes, however, managed the best team finish, coming in 3rd place for the tournament with a total of 892, with UC San Diego coming in two spots behind at 907, just seven strokes in front of the Toros, who finished at 914.

CSUDH resumes competition in two weeks as it travels to Bakersfield for the Elco, Inc., hosted by Cal State Bakersfield.
