CSUDH Battles Throughout Before Falling 64-42 to CSUSB

CARSON -- The numbers don't always tell the story.  However they don't lie either. The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros couldn't overcome their struggles on the offensive end, falling 64-42 to guest Cal State San Bernardino. However the final score wasn't indicative of the game as the Toros were only an offensive outburst from grabbing the momentum. First time starter Meghan Duron had career highs in points (6), rebounds (6) and assists (2).

Balance was the name of the game for the Toros in the first half as eight different players scored.  Despite that balance and some very tough defense the Coyotes found its stroke from three point range, going 4-of-8 for the half.  CSUDH used stellar rebounding to stay in the game throughout the first half, including holding CSUSB to only one point over seven minutes of play. Oregon State transfer Eisha Sheppard scored 12 points to led both sides into halftime with the score 33-20.

CSU San Bernardino seemed to take over the game at the start of the second half but they too fell victim to an offensive slump.  The Toros deserve much of the credit as their defense inside the paint and around the basket was stellar, but the Coyote guards made the difference. CSUSB put the game out of reach with a 6-0 run to expand the margin from 12 to 18. Junior Ashley Hudson was a force in the second half down low, scoring all nine of her points to go along with all six of her rebounds in the half.

For the game the Toros shot only 29.2% from the field compared to 43.1% for the Coyotes. For the fourth time this season CSUDH outrebounded their opponent, today by a 37-35 total.

Junior Nikki Boutte' added eight points, five rebounds, two steals and a team high three assists on the night.

The Toros are off until next Sunday December 12, when they face cross-town rival Cal State L.A. at 4:30pm. The Golden Eagles defeated CSU Dominguez Hills 75-62 earlier this season in the Torodome.
