CARSON -- Inspired by a halftime pep talk by head coach Joe Flanagan, the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's soccer team awoke from its uninspired first half slumber by scoring three goals in the second half in a span of 13 minutes in the Toros' 3-0 win over visiting Cal State East Bay on a hot and humid day in Carson. Diego Turoldo notched the game-winner with a PK in the 53rd minute.

The contest was everything unlike the first time the two teams met earlier this season when the Toros routed the Pioneers 5-0 in Hayward, despite CSUDH's 15 shots compared to just 3 for the visitors in the first half.

That all changed after intermission when the halftime meeting woke the team up.

The aggressive paid off in the 52nd minute as a streaking Andre Turoldo was pulled down in the Pioneer box, setting up a penalty kick, which older brother Diego Turoldo converted for a 1-0 lead.

CSUDH doubled the score 10 minutes later when Jordan Rover collected a loose ball in the box after Pioneer keeper Bryce Bookhamer was unable to secure a shot attempt, and sent his uncontested header into the back of the net for a 2-0 lead.

The Toros closed the scoring 3 minutes later as Greg Piechota took a cross from Scott Locken and beat Bookhamer near post for a 3-0 lead.

CSUDH dominated the game, tallying a 30-4 shot advantage, and an 8-1 edge in corners.  Bookhamer tallied 10 saves while Markus Dickerson finished with 2 for the Toros.

The Toros, now 8-2-2, 6-2-2 CCAA, continue home CCAA hosting duties next weekend, beginning with a 7:00 pm match-up against Humboldt State on Friday, October 15.
