Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
LA JOLLA -- Despite a significant lead in game one against the Mavericks of Mesa State, the Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team lost their rhythm before falling in a 3-0 loss on day two of the Triton Invitational. With low team-attacking, Heather Rushton anchored the Toros' defense with five total blocks in the loss.

With a lead as high as 14-7, CSUDH appeared to be in good form to take game one before MSC found a groove and rode it to a hard-fought 25-23 win. Samantha Maxwell led in game one with four kills and eight in the nightcap.

Game two saw the Toros drop behind quickly, forcing them to play catch-up before a 25-19 loss. With more of the same in game three, CSUDH gave a final push at the end with a five-point streak, capped by a Rushton and Ashley Clark block.

The final effort was not enough before the Toros lost the game and match 25-15.

In the day's first match against the University of Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves and a quick game one 25-16 loss, CSUDH found its rhythm as the Seawolves broke down in game two to quickly grab a a 4-1 lead.

With Anchorage nipping at their heals, the Toros were able to rally from a 19-22 deficit with a Rushton kill to tie the game at 22-22 apiece. CSUDH would grab its last point of the game off a UAA service error before dropping the game 25-23. Both Rushton and Madison Horsley led the match with six kills with Horsley also posting 11 digs.

CSUDH, now with a 0-7 overall record to start 2009, will next face off at Sonoma State on September 10. First serve is slated for 7:00pm in Rohnert Park.
