CARSON -- It was deja vu all over again as visiting and No. 4 ranked Fresno Pacific took a 3-0 sweep over Cal State Dominguez Hills this afternoon in the Torodome, duplicating the result from their September 26 tilt to sweep the regular season series.
CSUDH was held to a .071 hitting percentage in the 25-10, 25-18, 25-14 final, while the Sundbirds enjoyed a .460 percentage.
Anna Sanzaro led the Toros with seven kills as neither side had a player reach the double-figure kill mark.
Uncharacteristically, CSUDH finished the match without recording a block for the first time this year.
After dropping a lopsided first set, the Toros scored three of the first four points to open set two, before the Sunbirds went on a 7-0 run to take control.
The Toros clawed to within 9-6 on a
Kylie Leopard putaway, only for FSU to go on a 5-0 run for a 14-6 advantage.
CSUDH got to within five points at 20-15 on an FSU block error, but the still undefeated visitors closed on a 5-3 run to take a two set lead.
The hosts showed life in set three, turning a seven-point deficit to just 11-7 after a FPU setting error.
That would be as close as the Toros would get, however, as the visitors went on a 14-7 run to close the set and match.
Malia Jones added a team-high eight digs, with Leopard and
Dakota Carvo each notching a service ace.
CSUDH will look for its own deja vu on Saturday at 5 pm as it hosts UC Merced after taking their first meeting by a 3-1 count.
