Toros Take 6-4 Exhibition Win Over Keio University, Continue Goodwill With Free Clinic This Sunday

Carson, CA -- Continuing a 17 year old relationship, the Cal State  Dominguez Hills baseball team took a 6-4 win over Keio University in a spirited exhibition game last Tuesday. The international baseball action continues as the two teams join forces on Sunday, March 8, to host a free baseball clinic at Toro Field, open to those in high school.

Both Jon Alia and Carlos Leyva blasted RBI singles to knot the win for the Toros, with eight different pitchers taking the mound.  Keio was able to put runners on first and second in the ninth inning before the Toros shut them down for a final score of 6-4.

The highlight of the day came from three prominent Japanese-Americans in Mickey Miyamae (ANA Airlines, Regional Marketing Manager), Mitch Maki (CSUDH Dean of Professional Studies) and Dave Yanai (former CSUDH Men's Basketball Head Coach) throwing a first-pitch 'battery' with the pitch coming from Maki to Miyamae while Yanai took a swing at the throw.

The action continues as this upcoming Sunday as the Toros will join forces with Keio University to host a one-day baseball clinic, free to all local high schoolers.  The clinic is part of Reviving Baseball in the Inner Cities (R.B.I.) program and will feature on the field instruction from both the CSUDH and Keio baseball squads as the high schoolers receive instruction and skill development.  A bar-be-que and five-inning intersquad game featuring Keio University will follow the lessons in which the participants can see the skills they learned put into use.

Remember, it's not every day a high school player from L.A. can shake hands with a college baseball player from Tokyo!
