Defense Goes South as Montana State Billings Takes 2-0 & 3-2 Wins Over the Toros

Game 1    Game 2

Carson, CA -- Nerves uncharacteristically made their way into the Toro infield today as CSUDH committed four errors in the opener and three more in the nightcap en route to 2-0 and 3-2 losses to Montana State Billings in the season home opener.  Senior Regina Farfan saw action in both contests as CSUDH fell to 2-4 on the year.

The opener was scoreless heading into the top of the fourth when a Toro error to begin the inning gave MSUB the game's first run as an ensuing single, sacrifice and sacrifice fly brought in Leslie Davis, who began the frame.

Montana State Billings again benefitted two innings later as another Toro error on the first MSUB batter of the frame gave the visitors an extra out, and a fielder's choice, the second CSUDH error of the inning, and a passed ball brought home the game's second run.

CSUDH had its best chance to score in the 5th as consecutive singles by Khryssi Steele and Katie Garcia, followed by a passed ball that moved the runners up one base, brought up reigning CCAA Player of the Week Emiley McEwen, but MSUB starter Rebekah Tsatsa fanned McEwen on a 2-2 pitch to keep the Toros off the board.

MSUB mustered just three hits on the day, but four Toro miscues provided more than enough help in the game one win.

The Jackets scored first in the nightcap as Steph Gosselin blasted CSUDH starter Kaci Carroll's first pitch over the wall, bringing home Davis for a 2-0 lead after Davis drew a two-out walk.

CSUDH tied the game in the 4th as Farfan belted her own blast to bring home Jennifer Frazier, who singled to open the frame.

MSUB's Allysa Frank, however, gave the visitors the final say as she led off the 6th with a home run off reliever Kristin Tanaka, giving the Jackets the lead for good.

A Frazier one-out walk in the 6th proved to be the Toros' final offensive gasp, as the final five Toros were retired to give MSUB the sweep and its third win over the Toros in the past five days.

CSUDH begins CCAA Conference action this Friday as it hosts Sonoma State for the first two games of a four-game set, with first pitch of game one set for 1:00 pm on Toro Diamond.
