Biola Outlasts Toros in Overtime Exhibiton, 70-65

CARSON -- Visiting NAIA Biola was outshot 50.0% to 45.7% by the host Toros during regulation, but sank 4-of-5 shots in overtime to post a 70-65 exhibition win over Cal State Dominguez Hills in the Toros' lone home exhibition of the season.  Newcomer Tim McLaurin paced all scorers with 21 points while junior James Cawthorne (pictured) contributed 12 points on the afternoon.

The Eagles jumped out to as large as a 17-6 lead with just under eight minutes elapsed in the first half, before the Toros whittled their deficit to 4 points on two occasions in the final 5:28, entering the break trailing 30-26.

The Toros used that surge to their advantage after the intermission, eventually taking the lead on a pair of Robert Willhite free throws at the 17:56 mark.  CSUDH pushed its edge to four before the Eagles clawed back, tying the game for the seventh and final time at 57-57 with 45 ticks left in regulation, where the score remained heading into the extra session.

In the extra session, Biola used pin-point shooting to seal the victory, taking a 66-61 lead on a trey and bucket by Josh Miller en route to a 70-65 win.

In addition to McLaurin and Cawthorne's contributions, Jamel Ward finished with 9 points, with Cawthorne pulling down 8 boards and Willhite 7.

Biola was led by Danny Campbell, Marlon King and Miller with 14 points each, while Nate Rakestraw chipped in 13.

The Toros open the 2009-10 season on Tuesday, November 17, hosting Grand Canyon with a 7:00 pm first tip in the Torodome.
