Toros Simmer Down in Second Half to Fall in 63-54 Loss to Regis Rangers

GOLDEN, Colo. -- Taking a first half lead was not enough as the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team simmered down in a static second half before falling 63-54 to the Regis University Rangers in game one of the Colorado School of Mines Thanksgiving Classic. Whitney Gantt led on both ends of the court for CSUDH, grabbing seven boards and tallying 16 points.

Both teams kept it close in the first half with the Toros managing a three point lead on numerous occasions after cutting down a Ranger 6-point lead at 10-4, the biggest point differential of the half.

The Toros used 41% first-shooting to go into the break with a 32-29 lead, after limiting the Rangers to 28% shooting from the floor.

Regis got a big boost in the second half to overcome the Toros, courtesy of Tae'lor Purdy, who scored 14 of her 21 points in the 20-minute margin to eventual lead her team to the win.

Aundria Anderson stepped up for CSUDH in the second, leading with six points, triple that of her first half total of two.

Overall, CSUDH kept control of the game for a solid 25-minutes, taking their last chance at a lead off an Anderson jumper with 14:57 left in the second. A lone three chipped RU's lead to below the double-digit mark, coming by way of MacKenzie Mathias with seven seconds left.
