Seaside, CA – On a day where the clouds opened up and poured down rain, the Toros managed to find a break in the downpour to get a pair of games in against host Cal State Monterey Bay, taking a 9-6 decision in the nightcap after falling 3-2 in the opener.  With the split CSUDH improves to 4-11 overall and 1-1 in CCAA play.

In the late game, the Toros put up single runs in each of the first two innings courtesy of an RBI single by Chris Hunter and Brian Sturgis first career homerun, but the Otters doubled the Toro output with four runs over the first two innings of play.

Sturgis struck again in the top of the 4th with an RBI single up the middle to start a three-run, four-hit inning that gave the Toros the lead at 5-4.

CSUMB tied the game in the bottom of the innings, but the Toro bats continued to scratch out hits and scored two more runs in the top of the 5th on RBI singles by Jeff Cullen and David Leyva.

The Otters countered with a lone run in the bottom of the 5th, but the Toros pushed across two more runs in the top of the 7th to secure the win.

Jeff Phillips was credited with the win in relief, tossing 3.2 innings while allowing a single run on just three hits.

In the opener the Toros struck first in the top of the 3rd on a solo shot by Cody Puckett, but the Otters stormed back in the bottom of the 6th with three runs on only one hit, taking advantage of a Toro passed ball.

Puckett led off the top of the 8th with a walk, and Cullen followed one batter later with a single down the right field line to bring the go-ahead run to the plate.

After a Toro pop out, Kevin Pillar laced a single to score Puckett from second, putting the potential tying run in Cullen at second.

The Otters' second trip of the inning to the bullpen proved fruitful as Brian Callen shut the door on CSUDH with a strikeout to pick up the save.

Starter Bret Montgomery went the distance, tossing 8 innings and allowing no earned runs, fanning eight batters against juts one walk in picking up the hard-luck loss.

The two teams will hopefully do battle tomorrow, weather permitting, in a twinbill slated for an 11:00 AM first pitch in Seaside.
