Sea Warriors Complete Series Sweep Over Toros With Pair of Wins, 7-3 & 12-9

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Game 1    Game 2

Kaneohe, HI - Things never seemed to go the Toros' way on their trip across the Pacific as CSUDH concluded its six-game series against the Sea Warriors of Hawai'i Pacific with a pair of losses, 3-7 and 9-12.  With the losses the Toros fall to 3-10.

Things started off promising for the Toros in the opener after Candelario Flores led off with a double to left, advanced to third on a wild pitch and was brought home by Martin Conde with a ground out.

CSUDH scratched out another run in the second after back-to-back doubles by Kevin Pillar and Steve Vranau, but the Sea Warriors batted around in the bottom of the second and scored five runs to erase the Toro lead.

The Toros continued to fight and scored a single run for the third-straight inning after three straight walks loaded the bases and, with one out, Vranau hit a sac fly to center, scoring Eric Blackwell from third.

However, HPU added a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth and held the Toro bats at bay the rest of the game.

The nightcap was another offensive showcase as both teams scored three runs in the opening frame.

CSUDH looked poise to capture its first win on the island in the top of the fourth by scoring four runs, two of which came on a single by Jeff Cullen, but HPU had other plans.

The Sea Warriors erupted for nine runs on five hits with all nine batters in the inning touching home plate.

Despite playing their sixth game in three days, the Toros showed no quit, scoring two more runs in the top of the fifth to get back in the game, but the Sea Warrior bullpen again shut down the Toro bats late in the game in their eventual 12-9 win.
