CARSON -- After being blanked in its home opener last Sunday, the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's soccer team wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard as
Jose Peredia found the back of the net in the first 20 minutes of play en route to playing to a 2-2 draw against Western Oregon University tonight at Toro Stadium.
With the tie, CSUDH moves to 1-1-1 in the new year.
The action started early WOU's Ignacio Brandan was issued a red card at the 13:38 mark, giving the Toros a one-man advantage the rest of the contest. Peredia made the most of that opportunity less than three minutes later as he took a feed from
Juan Calderon, and slotted it low to the left side of Wolves keeper Austin Valdez for a quick 1-0 lead.
That advantage was short-lived, however, as WOU equalized 2:57 later to knot the game at 1-1, where it would stay the rest of the half.
Just 1:26 into the second period, a Toro foul resulted in a penalty kick attempt, which the Wolves converted for their first lead of the evening.
Calderon then took matters onto his own feet in the 59th minute with a nice finish to tie the match in the eventual draw.
The Toros dominated play to the tune of a 19-10 shot advantage, including a robust 11-3 edge after intermission that was fueled by five shots by
Lucas Galarza (2 SOG) and four by Peredia (2 SOG). Keeper
Keegan O'Brien was credited with four saves while the Toro attack resulted in six saves for the Wolves.
CSUDH hosts Point Loma on Wednesday for another primetime match-up, with first kick set for 7 pm at Toro Stadium.
