CARSON -- Three certainly proved to be the magic number for the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's soccer team as the Toros picked up their first California Collegiate Athletic Association over visiting Chico State in their third CCAA contest, a 3-2 decision over the Wildcats.
CSUDH moves to 3-3-3 overall and 1-1-1 in the CCAA.
The Toros dominated the first 45 minutes of play by doubling the Wildcat shot attempts by a 10-5 count. That pressure paid dividends as CSUDH erased a 1-0 deficit by taking the lead for good in a span of four minutes.
Trailing 1-0,
Jose Peredia equalized into the upper right V at 25:56, before
Aldair Marta put the hosts up 2-1 at 29:46, slotting his shot high and center to the back of the net.
That's where the score remained until early in the second half when
Nathan Hernandez (pictured) sent a low screamer past Chico's keeper at 47:05, providing what would be the eventual game winner after the Wildcats cut their deficit to one late in the match.
Peredia led the Toros with five shots in the contest, with three coming on frame.
Tiago Menezes was credited with one save in the win as the teams split a total of 26 fouls called.
CSUDH looks to run its win streak to two matches on Sunday, hosting Cal Poly Humboldt in the annual Dignity Health Sports Park Main Stadium match, starting at 2 pm.
