TURLOCK, Calif. -- Cal State Dominguez Hills junior
Angel Cortez clubbed two home runs in today's final game at Stanislaus State, but the host Warriors enjoyed two big innings to take the series finale, 8-4, and split the season series by winning the final two games.
The Toros fall to 18-23 overall and 10-18 in CCAA play.
Stan State took an early 3-0 lead after the first inning of play before Cortez launched a solo shot to left to cut CSUDH's deficit to two runs. The hosts, however, answered with five runs over the next two innings to take an 8-1 lead heading into the top of the sixth inning.
In that frame, Cortez went deep again for a 2-run home run to get the Toros closer, with an
Alex Sepulveda RBI double one inning later bringing the Cardinal and Gold to within 8-4.
The Toros, however, managed just one hit in each of the final two innings in the loss, CSUDH's second straight setback.
Cortez led the offense with three hit and three RBI, with
Nigel Buckley,
Quinn Johnson and Sepulveda each knocking two hits.
The Toros conclude their 2026 campaign at home next weekend against Cal State San Bernardino, looking to play spoiler as the Coyotes are fighting for one of three final berths in the CCAA postseason tournament taking place from May 6-9, on the Coyotes home field.
