INDIANAPOLIS – The Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball team will have the opportunity to defend its NCAA West Regional title.
The NCAA announced the 64-team Division II Men's Basketball Championship field Sunday evening, and the Toros earned an at-large bid as the No. 5 seed in the West Region. They will face No. 4 seed Alaska Anchorage in the quarterfinal round Friday at Pioneer Gymnasium on the campus of Cal State East Bay. Tipoff times and additional tournament details will be announced at a later date.
Cal State Dominguez Hills will be making its seventh overall appearance in the NCAA regionals after earning the first-ever NCAA West Region title last year. They finished the 2025-26 regular season second in the CCAA and posted its third-straight season with at least 20 wins, entering this postseason at 21-8. In fact, these past three seasons under head coach Steve Becker, now in his 13th season at the helm of the program, have been the (Cardinal and) Golden age of CSUDH basketball as the Toros have averaged over 24 wins during this 73-22 stretch, capped by last season's program-best 30 victories that saw them finish just one basket shy of claiming the program's first NCAA Championship.
Despite falling in the semifinals of the CCAA tournament, the Toros closed the regular season as one of the hottest teams in basketball with a 9-2 mark, and is primed for another deep run with six players on the roster who were part of last year's NCAA run to the title game.
Host and CCAA champion Cal State East Bay, the region's top seed, will square off against Cal Poly Humboldt in a rematch of Saturday's conference tournament championship game. The winners of Friday's contests will meet in the semifinal round Saturday.
On the opposite side of the bracket, No. 2 Saint Martin's will face No. 7 Hawaiʻi Pacific, while No. 3 Point Loma takes on No. 6 Northwest Nazarene.
After an off day Sunday, the remaining two teams will compete for the West Regional championship Monday. The regional winner advances to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight.
Alaska Anchorage, 21-10 on the season, is making its second NCAA Tournament appearance in the past three years. The Seawolves finished second in the GNAC regular-season standings and were the conference tournament runner-up, falling to Saint Martin's in the championship game.
More information regarding game times, ticketing and live coverage will be announced as it becomes available.
